Ever since people started consuming their news and advertising from the web, magazine and newspaper publishers have searched for a business model. Some, including The Wall Street Journal, have erected a paywall round all or most of their websites and charged readers a subscription. Other publishers have tried to rely on advertising for most of their income, while the rest use a combination of types of income stream.
